>First of all, let me apologize to all our readers for being away for so long. Namakparay was busy in administering another blog, Chooran Chutny (yes, we do have a fettish for Pakistani snacks, and hence the names!) , as our semester assignment. Many of you must have read it. Now that Chooran Chutny is finished, at least for now, we are back home to Namakparay.
Before Eid-ul-Azha, when the date of Eid was beign announced, I was expecting the moon sighhtings to go hay-wire again as they usually do when Ramzan and Eid-ul-Fitr come. But there was no such fuss over the moon and its sightings and the dates of Eid. It was boring!
Then I realised that our religious scholars, leaders, and clerics save all the bickering for Ramzan when they turn into puritan Muslims who follow the Shariah to the dot. Gone is Ramzan and Eid-ul-Fitr, they follow the Roet-e-Hilal Committee like sheep follow the shepherd. Moharram, 12 Rabi-ul-Awwal, 15 Shaba’an, Hajj, Eid-ul-Azha all fall rightly onto the dates that the whole country follows.
They forget to roll over the remaining or the extra couple of days they have spent already of the lunar month, burry all the hatchets and celebrate Hajj and Eid-ul-Azha with all the fervour and spirit that true Muslims all over the world should envy.
